Montage is about connecting people to God, one another, and sending people to serve the world.

Our fundamental posture is one that recognizes that God is the one in who we all "live and move and have our being" and that he "is not very far from any one of us" even when we don't recognize his closeness. We believe that God is active in the world and that he is inviting us into a relationship and partnership with Him as he works to mend and restore the broken fragments of humanity.

Our name, Montage, comes from that very idea - that God is taking us, the fragments of humanity, and is piecing us together in such a way that a bigger and more glorious collective story is told than any one of our lives would tell by itself. Interconnectedness and community are large parts of our core values.

We believe that God's blueprint for spiritual communities is ultimately for us to be a blessing to the rest of humanity. When God began to invite humanity into partnership with him to mend the fractures in our broken experience he did it by promising His forst people that "I will bless you...and all people on the earth will be blessed through you". Thus, much of what we are about is working in our context, the city of Toronto, to add value and to highlight and bring out the best in humanity for the sake of humanity. We are God's most loves creation and so we are seeking to love people that way God loves people - wholeheartedly, radically and in a way that welcomed people to come just as they are.

Because of the value God places on people our measure of success and goals are all people focused. We're seeking to help people experience a revolution of their soul - that our character would more closely match that of Jesus because he IS God showing us how to live. This revolution goes far beyond morality to experiencing the kind of life that comes when we connect with Jesus and experience all he means for our lives to be and do. We believe that in order to build positive momentum in a city that we must be engaged with a contributing to the culture at large. Therefore you'll find us actively engaged with cultural creativity and encouraging people towards that activity. Lastly, because Toronto is just too big to add value to from one venue, we're seeking to expand into and influence many neighbourhoods in Toronto as we grow and mature.

Ultimately our vision is about you and about a journey we'd like to take with you. It's our hope belief that God will do something amazing as our stories are woven together and that he will bring out the best of the city of Toronto through us.

Core Values

There are several key values that characterize Montage. These values motivate us in what we do as a community.

Interconnectedness (Relational) – people are designed for community. God designed us for relationship and intimacy with Him and each other simultaneously. Life in Jesus is personal but not individualistic. Humans are the web that weaves a nexus of creation together.

1 Corinthians 12 (parts of the body)
John 13:34-35 (love one another)
1 John 4:7-21 (Christ’s love for us)
Genesis 6:7 (The fate of creation is the fate of humanity)

Contextualization (Relevant) – there is no separation of the secular and sacred. God is working in, to and for the world, not just the church. We are invited to see how He is at work and work with Him to created a better world and humanity.

Acts 17:16-34 (Paul in Athens)
John 1:14 (Word became flesh)
Philippians 2:5-9 (Being in very nature God)
1 Corinthians 9:19-23 (To the Jew I became a Jew)
Acts 10 (Peter and Cornelius)

Common Priesthood/Emigration (Empowering) – the church is primarily a movement. Ministry is not just the realm of a few paid professionals. God equips each member of the faith community to give to others and gives a unique mission to each member. A follower of Christ must be on a trajectory of greater missional living.

John 20:21
Matthew 28: 19-20
Acts 1:8 (Judea, Samaria)
Act8:1-14 (church scatters/spreads)
1 Peter  2:4-10

Great Expectations (Multiplying) – God’s designs are bigger than we can imagine. We have been invited to dream big with God. His plan is one that redeems cities, countries and the world. We want to be a part of His vision for this city, country, and for the world.

Acts 1:8
         Ephesians 3:20
